Access control

Corporate biometric access control: from door policies to handover

Plan staff and visitor access, select devices, connect attendance systems, and validate installation for corporate offices and facilities.

Access control determines who may enter, through which door, and at what time. Face or fingerprint recognition is one credential option; cards and other credentials can suit different needs. An effective system combines access rules, door equipment, and staff procedures.

Start with the floor plan and access policy

Separate staff, visitor, contractor, and restricted-area access. Define working hours, approval responsibilities, and who changes permissions when an employee changes roles or leaves.

  • Door and user counts, floor plans, door types, and existing locks.
  • Face, fingerprint, card, or combined identification requirements, subject to device support.
  • Access reports, attendance/HR integration, and ownership of user administration.

A documented COSEC capability

Matrix’s COSEC PANEL LITE manual documents zones and anti-passback configuration. Anti-passback controls the sequence of entry/exit credential use; it is not a physical barrier preventing someone following another person. Verify features against the panel, reader, software, and licensing combination.

Design three security layers

Illustrative design, not a customer project claim: first verify identity, then enforce door/time permissions, and finally retain events for review. Sensitive sites can apply these rules at the perimeter, internal zones, and restricted rooms. Where one-person passage is needed, assess turnstiles or other physical barriers.

Include installation and integration in the scope

Survey reader placement, cabling, power, network connections, locks, door sensors, and exit buttons. Coordinate power-loss behaviour and emergency exit procedures with the facilities team. Test authorised/denied access, prolonged door opening, and agreed failure conditions.

Attendance integration does not automatically implement all payroll rules. Manciti needs to inspect data formats, the API (Application Programming Interface), working-hour rules, and HR system ownership before defining scope. Test exchanges with approved sample users and transactions.

Business benefits and ongoing support

The business gains more consistent permission management and records for incident investigation. Handover includes administrator training, onboarding/offboarding procedures, configuration backups, and documentation. Support hours, maintenance, fault handling, and response times are agreed in the quotation; 24-hour coverage is not assumed.

Questions before buying

Does every door need biometrics?
No. Credentials and equipment follow risk, user counts, the installation environment, and company policy.
Can existing locks be reused?
Survey lock types, power supplies, door condition, and controller connections before deciding.
What determines the budget?
Doors, readers/controllers, locking hardware, cabling, servers/licences, users, integration, and support scope.
